October promises to be a busy time, with many interesting events planned at Kensington Park. But more important, October is Resident Rights Month. And as our residents move in to their new home with us, we recognize our responsibility to ensure that their rights as individuals are respected here. Our focus is on you, as the resident, and we encourage you or your family member to feel comfortable in voicing your opinions and providing us with feedback. We are also very fortunate in Montgomery County to have the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, whose volunteers visit our community regularly. They are a great resource for our residents and families in their role as advocates and we are fortunate indeed to have their support.
Taking care of our residents also means getting them their flu shots! Our Highlands residents will be vaccinated on Tuesday, October 3, and our residents in The Woodlands and The Groves will be receiving their vaccine shots on Wednesday, October 4. All families of Woodland and Groves residents should have recently received an email with a link to download a consent form. This form will need to be completed and returned to us before the flu shot can be administered. Preprinted forms can be picked up at the concierge in The Woodlands.
Come walk with us! Our Kensington Park team will take its next step in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in the National Walk To End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 14. You can register to join us and/or donate to our team by clicking here. This is a good way to spend time with family and friends for a great cause while walking off those extra pounds!
We will be holding our next CarFit event on campus on Thursday, October 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The session is sponsored by AAA and AARP and is a free, interactive education program designed to improve your driving experience. A trained, certified technician will ensure that your car fits you properly for a safe driving experience. Watch for a coming announcement regarding the dates for our Halloween parties across campus and be sure you come in costume! We will also be inviting local children in to trick-or-treat. Please refer to the activities calendar for your community for further details.
Make October a month of exploration and reflection, in anticipation of our days becoming more hectic! Keep yourself healthy and vitalized with long walks, fresh air, and surrounding yourself in the beautiful colors of the fall season!
