We promise to love and care for your family as we do our own.

Why Choose Kensington Park – The Highlands for Independent Living?

As one of few beautifully-appointed rental independent living communities in Montgomery County, The Highlands at Kensington Park offers an exceptional lifestyle for seniors choosing freedom from the demands of owning their homes. Our multitude of services and amenities make life easy and enjoyable for our residents. We have a lush, 8-acre campus tucked away in the heart of a quaint Kensington neighborhood. With plenty of serene spots to take in nature, like our cozy front porch and sunny back deck, our community is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. Just a few steps across campus from Independent Living, we also offer Assisted Living and Memory Care.

The Freedom to Choose Your Days, Your Way

We take care of it all – so you don’t have to! Life at The Highlands includes concierge services, three meals a day, evening cocktail hour, monthly Sunday brunch, weekly housekeeping with personal laundry and linen services, maintenance and transportation, too. Without these demands, residents can focus on whatever makes the day pleasant.

No matter how you choose to spend your time, you will have ample opportunity to feed your mind, strengthen your body and nourish your soul.

At Kensington Park, we believe in the power of community, but also value the preservation of individuality. Down time is yours, if you choose it. Companionship is within easy reach, if you desire it. Culture is nearby, if you seek it. If you prefer a quieter place, then you can relax in intimate spaces that offer peace and solitude. If you like to keep busy, then you can consult our calendar of programming or take advantage of nearby restaurants, shops and parks. Not to mention, your family is our family. Residents’ friends and families may visit as often as they like and are encouraged to join in our activities, outings, holiday celebrations and daily meals or cocktail hours. Whatever is most important to you, is most important to us.

If you have questions about the care our team at Kensington Park can provide, please don’t wait to get in touch with us.

“We’re not residents – we’re family!” Sumner L., Highlands Resident

Where everybody knows your name! At The Highlands, our residents and team members are a tight-knit community driven by deep bonds. Shared experiences offer companionship, which is especially beneficial to seniors. Did you know friendship lowers the risk of developing heart disease and accelerates healing after surgery or illness? It provides a strong sense of purpose and peace of mind, which contributes positively to overall health and well-being. We know that togetherness is good for the heart, so we offer plenty of it.

Building connections between residents and enhancing engagement are at the heart of our activities programming. Our calendar of events, which is built around the varied interests of residents, runs 7 days a week. A variety of exercise classes like Tai Chi, yoga and strength-conditioning are offered several times a week and start off any day with a get up and go attitude. Our in-house team of board-certified Music Therapists lead weekly chorus and handbell choir. Local artists come onsite to teach watercolor painting, beading and more. Historians and other guest speakers often lecture on a wide range of interesting topics. Residents like to initiate their own small groups as well, like Bridge Club and Rummikub Club. Live musical performances in our bistro at evening cocktail hours or on special holidays are always a crowd-pleaser. Intergenerational programming, in partnership with our next-door neighbor Silver Creek Middle School, includes seasonal choirs and group performances. Our residents also have a strong spirit to serve and often volunteer their time, whether it be fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association at our annual Vintage Car Show, knitting blankets for the Children’s Inn at NIH, or serving lunch to residents in our neighboring Memory Care building. Off-site excursions include docent guided museum and botanical garden visits, experiencing the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Strathmore, enjoying dining with new friends at great local restaurants and much more. Choose the ones you like, and you’ll be as busy as you want.

Dining: Every Day, Every Dish Offers Novelty to be Savored

Our Executive Chef Morissa Harris, a graduate of Johnson & Wales University, has a zest for food that transforms every mealtime gathering into a sensational dining experience for residents and families. While most Independent Living communities utilize rotating set menus, Chef Morissa has free reign to create her own seasonal menus, which are all reviewed and approved by our visiting registered dietician. Though this task is more time-consuming, it is a labor of love. Feedback is vital to her mission. She meets one-on-one with residents to absorb their ideas and favorite family recipes then weaves them into the menu. Her dynamic original recipes, often from a variety of cuisines, incorporate the latest culinary trends and freshest flavors, including dishes from the renowned Mediterranean diet.

Our elegant Dining Room offers daily items such as grilled salmon, our signature KP salad and a variety of specials from Chef Morissa. We also offer opportunities for our residents and families to interact with our chefs and have their meal prepared right before their eyes. All of our apartments feature full kitchens, so if you are a foodie who loves to prepare meals at home, you can still do that. But on those days when you don’t feel like cooking, or you’re just too busy living life – we’ve got you covered!

We believe that table-time togetherness is a meaningful opportunity for families and friends to slow down, share laughs, strengthen bonds and make memories. As a result, we make it easy for residents to invite company as often as possible by offering complimentary dining for families and friends. Our team of servers treat everyone at our table as someone important, because they are.
