Happy February!

Dear Residents, Families and Friends,

Welcome to February, the month designated for affairs of the heart — both emotional and physiological! Expressions of love are everywhere, from delectable chocolates to lovely red roses — all demonstrations of our affection for one an- other. If you haven’t already done so, remember to get out your red construction paper, scissors and glue and start making those Valentine “Be Mine” cards! Visit us at kensingtonparkseniorliving.com, and watch your in-box, to learn about all our upcoming events this month. We’d love to see you!

Join Kensington Park and the American Heart Association for National Wear Red Day, on Feb. 3. This will mark 15 years since the initial commemoration, which was first observed to bring national attention to the fact that heart disease is the number-one killer of women in the United States, and to raise awareness of women’s heart health. There are a few simple things we all know we can do to help lower the risk of developing heart disease. First, watch your weight, quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke. Next, control your cholesterol and blood pressure and, if you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. And, finally, become more active and eat a healthier diet. For more information, visit heart.org/HEARTORG/. Start your heart health plan today! “Home is where the heart is,” so take care of yours!

I am pleased to announce that our sister-community in Falls Church, Virginia, The Kensington at Falls Church, will be opening its doors this month! We have been working closely with their team and we are happy to have another one of our communities in the Washington Metro area. Kensington Senior Living currently has communities in White Plains, New York, Sierra Madre, California, and Redwood City, California.

We’re excited to share with you that we now have a full-time transportation coordinator, Francene Watson, to manage our residents’ daily needs. This development was necessitated by the large number of scheduled outings, medical appointments and other special requests that are planned every day across our campus of 200 residents. Transportation is a fundamental aspect of resident life and we want to ensure that we are meeting our residents’ requirements.

We have been busy revamping our salon services and our new hairstylist, Adriana Carioti, will be sending you an invitation soon to one of our upcoming Salon Open Houses. Drop by for a visit and get to know Adriana! Need a gift? We now offer gift cards for our salon services. Please email our controller, Letty Diai, at ldiai@kensingtonsl.com for assistance.

Here at Kensington Park we’re dedicated to providing the very best care and quality of life for your loved one. And essential to our efforts, of course, is your continued feedback. I hope you will keep your messages, which are so beneficial, coming. You can reach me by phone, at 301-946-7700, or by email, at mmell@kensingtonsl.com.

Warmly,

Headshot of Kensington Park Executive Director Mary Mell.
