Kensington Park Senior Living & World Central Kitchen Bake for Ukraine

Kensington Senior Living communities are coming together with World Central Kitchen as one family to fundraise for Ukraine, following the Russian invasion.

Throughout the month of April, we fundraised for Chef Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, a global non-profit that is currently working in Ukraine to provide nourishing meals.

Learn more below about World Central Kitchen, their efforts in Ukraine, and how to donate directly to support those working on the frontlines.

Why is Kensington Park Senior Living partnering with World Central Kitchen?

Each day, our communities work to serve and support our residents and their families. Our Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own, and this Promise extends into every aspect of our care.

That’s why World Central Kitchen’s efforts to serve nourishing meals, comfort, and hope to those struggling in Ukraine is a cause that’s dear to our hearts.

Food is a major part of daily life at Kensington Park, and our chefs work with love to prepare fresh, healthy, nutritious meals to residents and their visiting families.

We deeply understand the importance of food, and we want to support those who are in a great need of it right now.

How does Kensington Park Senior Living support the community?

Kensington Park Senior Living frequently hosts educational events to provide resources for caregivers, to support those with progressive diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and to help improve overall brain health and wellness with lifestyle tips.

We partner with organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, and Hilarity for Charity for fundraisers, and recently hosted CareCon with Hilarity for Charity to empower caregivers.

Who is World Central Kitchen and what is their mission?

World Central Kitchen serves chef-prepared meals to communities impacted by prolonged humanitarian crises and natural disasters.

The non-profit was founded by chef Jose Andres in 2010, after an earthquake in Haiti. Andres cooked alongside displaced Haitians, learning how to prepare black beans the way they preferred.

To Chef Jose Andres, food relief is a “plate of hope,” and the fastest way to rebuild a sense of community.

Kensington Park understands deeply how food can provide hope and healing to our residents and their families.

How does World Central Kitchen help communities rebuild?

World Central Kitchen aims to go beyond delivering food by immersing themselves in a community and supporting efforts to rebuild following disaster.

The nonprofit’s Resilience Programs train chefs and school cooks, award grants to farms, fisheries, and small food businesses, and provide educational and networking opportunities.

How will the fundraiser support those in Ukraine?

All proceeds from a donation to Kensington Bakes for Ukraine went directly toward World Central Kitchen’s on-the-ground efforts to nourish Ukrainians.

We exceeded our $15,000 goal to support these efforts, and visit our community to pick up your cookies.

When disaster strikes, World Central Kitchen responds with their quick-action model to get meals to the people who need them most.

Your donation directly supports these food first responders in their efforts to leverage local resources and quickly provide nourishing meals.

How far does my donation go?

World Central Kitchen has currently served meals in more than 30 cities and towns across Ukraine, and delivered thousands of tons of food and supplies by train and truck.

They are nearing 300,000 daily meals, with millions of meals served to families across Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Hungary.

The team also is partnering with restaurants in Ukraine to provide hot, nourishing meals to those in need.

With the help of your donation to their emergency food relief efforts, World Central Kitchen can continue their frontline work providing meals and organizing resilience programs.
