Welcome to April!

Welcome to April! We all know the old cliché about April being the cruelest month. (Did you know that famous line from T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land was written in January?) April is tax month, which makes few people smile. But, I love April. I love it’s freshness, flowers and comfortable temperatures. One of the greatest pleasures of being at Kensington Park is experiencing the Spring in Rock Creek Park. I found a couple of famous quotes to share with you about April to illustrate that experience.

“The front door to Springtime is a photographer’s best friend.” Terri Guillemets

Our Digital Photography Class will be undoubtedly capturing all the beauty this month, as taught by Chief Betsy Davis. The walking groups, picnics and activities outside will set the tone for the summer to come!

“The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day.” Robert Frost

Check out Vanessa’s pick for the KP Book of the Month: A PRAYER in SPRING, authored by Robert Frost, illustrated by Grandma Moses (pub. March 5, 2013). An exquisitely illustrated edition of a timeless poem. Robert Frost’ s realistic depictions of rural life, especially in New England in the early 20th century, are beautifully paired with the art created by Grandma Moses, the artist who epitomizes contemporary folk art. The result is a treasure to be enjoyed the whole year long. And, remember, Grandma Moses did not start her painting career until she was over 75 years old!

“A little madness in the Spring
Is wholesome even for the King.”

Emily Dickinson

It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone likes to have fun! Whether it’s at our daily socials and happy hours, or our great Spring Fling on April 30th, join in and enjoy the month!

Warmly,

Headshot of Kensington Park Executive Director Mary Mell.
