The Woodlands was abuzz last month when our own artist-in-residence, Kaaren R., lent her talents to teach a class in watercolor. Kaaren is a Woodlands resident. She has painted most of her life and for 26 years was a very popular watercolor instructor at the Santa Barbara Adult Education Center. Kaaren gets energy from sharing her enthusiasm and extensive knowledge about art, light, and color with her students. She feels that seeing a painting with new eyes and from a different, fresh perspective often translates into perceiving life in a new light.
Kaaren is also a very skilled cook, enjoys knitting, needlepoint, flower arranging, gardening, beading, and loves art books, especially those featuring painters such as Monet and Cezanne, and California landscapes. Kaaren is a regular member of the Photography Class, where she helpfully provides constructive criticism of residents’ photos. Kaaren recently sold her first art piece since coming to Kensington Park and, in turn, donated her fee towards a snack for the club. Thank you, Kaaren!
