Although Kyoko has been an Activities Coordinator with KP for 5.5 years, and now leads the K Club, her career began in a completely different field. She was a hairdresser for many years until one day, a client of hers told her about how fulfilling it was to work with seniors. The heartfelt testimony inspired Kyoko to work at a senior living community as an LCM Care Manager and a Med Tech. This was how she discovered her life’s passion!
Kyoko was born in Tokyo, Japan and it was there that she met her ex-husband. She moved to the U.S. with him and lived in California for 15 years before landing in Maryland 13 years ago. Kyoko has a son, daughter, granddaughter and an adorable pup named Oliver. Kyoko loves travel, painting, science, hiking with Oliver and gathering with friends. Her favorite food is anything Italian, particularly pasta. She brings enthusiasm, creativity and joy to our residents daily and enriches the lives of all whom she meets. Kyoko’s daughter, Valerie, even followed in her footsteps and is now an Activities Coordinator in the Groves!
“Kyoko’s dedication to the residents is evident in the way she continuously delivers purposeful activities that stimulate the residents and improve their well-being,” said KP volunteer Sandy Mayer. “KP is lucky to have Kyoko on their team!” Karen Pecoraro, another KP volunteer, added “Kyoko is creative, gifted and her smile is infectious! She truly cares for the residents and loves her job.” We are so lucky to have a team member with such dedication and passion!
