Team Member Highlight: Kensington Park Volunteers

Who better to celebrate this holiday season than the dedicated Volunteers of Kensington Park? They are the ultimate givers, sharing their time and talents with all at KP! Please join us in thanking our wonderful volunteers: Cindy, Sandy, Karen, Olive and Highlands residents Gwen, Millie, Detta and Mary Ruth.

KP Alumni Sandy, whose mother Laura lived at the Groves, spends her Saturdays on campus, assisting Kyoko and the K-Club with various creative projects. Sandy has been an avid gardener here; she planted a beautiful tree in honor of her mother and lends her green thumb to our Garden Club all year long. Most recently, she cleared out the raised garden beds in prep for winter with the help of new volunteer Olive! Many of you know Olive as our former Woodlands nurse who recently retired. She wanted to remain connected through volunteering, a true testament to the power of the KP Family. She recently accompanied the K-Club to Mount Vernon. Current family member Karen, whose mother lives in the Groves, is here every Wednesday for Woodlands Happy Hour with her world-famous homemade cookies. She provides cheer to residents as bartender and waitress, and it’s always a packed house! At the Highlands, Cindy has been coming to for over 4 years. Every Saturday, she plays brain games and word puzzles with our residents, who love spending time with her!

Highlands residents Gwen, Millie, Detta and Mary Ruth are always willing to pitch in for their fellow residents at the Woodlands and Groves. They’re a huge help at our various fundraising events like the Drive-By Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s and Friendsgiving. Pre-Covid, they would work our annual Car Show and National Night Out events, too. They organize projects and meet-n-greets in the other buildings to get residents together, like the recent “Holiday Cards for Heroes” project in which a big group wrote cards to send overseas to active duty military.

Thank you to these amazing ladies who set an example for all of us. Are you interested in volunteering at Kensington Park? We’d love it! Reach out to Iris Pierce at ipierce@kensingtonsl.com for opportunities.
