This year on Veteran’s Day, which took place November 11th, Kensington Park honored our veterans in the Highlands, Woodlands, and Groves. Each building displayed a framed photo, either current or from when they were a veteran, and had a service in their honor. During the service, each veteran’s name was announced along with their branch of service. They were then pinned with an American Flag pin and a Poppy pin.
It is so important to recognize all our veterans. Some were drafted while others enlisted. Some served during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. Some served during non-war time and some went on to make it a career. We have females who served, including Helen H. who was an Army nurse, Edith L. who was in the Israel Army, and Kit P. who was in the U.S. Navy. Two of our veterans, Helen H. and Allen F., are more than 100 years old!
Many of our veterans were able to attend college on the G.I. Bill. Since 1944, the G.I. Bill has helped veterans pay for schooling and training.
