Liana S. was born in Paris, France to a French mother and Greek father. She has one sister, Louiza, who she is very close to. Before coming to the United States in 1955, Liana lived most of her life with her parents and sister in Greece. She enjoyed traveling the world and learned to speak several languages including; French, Spanish, Greek and Italian! You can often find Liana speaking different languages with our staff and residents.
Liana moved to the United States where she worked as a seamstress, a beautician and later as an entrepreneur and jewelry wholesaler. While in Norfolk, VA, Liana met Alvin S. (Al) and they fell in love and got married. They had three children together, Tammy, Steven and Irena, and now have five grandchildren. Later this year Liana will become a great grandmother! Liana and Al would spend 6 months in the US and 6 months living in the Dominican Republic until Al passed away in 2011. They enjoyed living in their beach paradise and contributing to their community.
If you have ever visited her room, you can see she is extremely talented and artistic with needlepoint – some of the ones hanging in her room are examples of the works of art she created for family members as gifts. Liana was an avid tennis player and enjoys playing bingo, word puzzles and listening to her favorite music. Liana often helps our musical entertainers sing their songs because she always knows all of the words. She even spent time learning to play the piano and keyboard and while in France crowds would gather on the sidewalk to hear her play from her window. We are truly lucky to have a resident like Liana here at Kensington Park.
