Resident Highlight: Leah B.

resident and friend at kensington park senior livingLeah B. was born in Manhattan while her family spent summer vacations in Pine Bush, New York. She enjoyed her childhood, especially when she met a cute guy from Brooklyn one summer who stayed with his family right next door. She was only 12 at the time, but as the summers and years went by, Albert turned out to be a lifelong friend and also her husband!

After marriage, Albert worked as a writer in advertising and she followed in her father’s footsteps and became a dress designer. Leah attended the Fashion Institute of Design in NYC on scholarship. She had a great time at school, but the next chapter in her life was even more exciting.

Leah and Albert had a great life together. They adopted a little girl, Leslie, and then surprised everyone, even themselves, ten months later when they had a little boy, David. As Leah was busy raising their family, they moved to North Carolina for Albert’s work. This is when Leah and her friend decided to go back to college to finish their college careers. Leah looks back fondly on those years exclaiming, “Those years were wonderful raising the kids and going to school at the same time—phew!” Her family and her education are both something Leah is extremely proud of and cherishes.

Leah is delighted to tell everyone that her daughter, Leslie, is an attorney for President Obama. Leslie lives in the Washington, D.C. area, which is a main reason why Leah moved to Kensington Park. Her son, David, lives in North Carolina with his family and visits as often as he can!

When Leah’s husband, Albert, passed away, Leah decided it was time she moved closer to her family. Leah describes Allen as “larger than life. Someone who you can never forget and will never be forgotten.” Although she misses him dearly, she enjoys the KP atmosphere and all the friendly people she has met. She recently started the crochet and knitting club that gathers each week to try some new patterns and learn a few new tricks from Leah. She loves to go on all the outings and tries to participate in as many activities as possible; do not even try to beat her at table bowling! She also has joined Kensington Park’s Kensington Club where she is constantly kept busy throughout the day with as many activities as possible and she somehow still has the energy to join everyone for cocktail hour! Leah is always out and about with a great attitude and lots of energy. We are so glad you are here, Leah!
