Not many residents are known only by their nickname, but our very own special resident, Kit P., enjoys that distinction. Many of us know her as a dedicated resident advocate who was elected resident council president this past fall. What most of our residents and families don’t know is that we have an accomplished athlete and scholar here in our community.
Kit is a life-long Montgomery County resident who, in 1973, was voted Albert Einstein High School’s Outstanding Female Athlete and has been recognized as one of the top athletes ever to participate in that school’s sports programs. She was presented the Pioneer Award for Girls Athletics in 2006 by the Einstein Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame established The Kit P. Scholarship which is awarded to the school’s top female athlete each year.
Kit pursued her love of sports at the University of Maryland, where she played basketball and field hockey for the Terrapins while earning her undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies. In 1981 her athletic career came to a tragic end as a result of a car accident. This horrible, life-changing incident did not extinguish Kit’s drive to achieve and she received her juris doctorate from Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in 1996. She worked in the associate general counsel’s office at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and was a member of the general counsel’s staff at the American Academy of Actuaries.
These days, she is hard at work as a freelance commercial art and graphic designer for several companies. In her spare time you will find her outside on her porch, taking in the beautiful view. If you get a chance, stop for a minute and meet our very own superstar, Kit P!
