Happy New Year to all our lovely KP families. As I write this, it is still December and we have been busy spreading holiday cheer through music therapy! One of the ways we did so was through a holiday edition of our virtual music therapy program, Music for the Mind, Body & Soul. It was organized by our Director of Community Partnerships, Conor Duncan. Have you seen the recording yet? It is magical!
The part that stuck out most to me was our guest performances. We had a KP family member, Phil S., play carols on the harmonica (from home via Zoom) while a handful of our Highlands residents teamed up to form a handbell choir, directed by Caroline Seitzinger, MT-BC. It culminated in a group of us, in masks, singing Jingle Bells with Mary & Carson Mell by the 15-ft Christmas tree in the Highlands!
When the program ended, I noticed that everyone around me was smiling, saying how much fun they had, and overall, you could feel something buzzing in the room: joy. It reminded me how music creates the space for people of all kinds to experience joy and feel connected to each other. If you’d like to watch the recording of the special event, reach out to Conor at cduncan@kensingtonsl.com.
We are so thankful to be able to create joy and togetherness with your loved ones in music therapy. Looking ahead to 2021, we are thrilled to continue and expand our music therapy programming across the KP campus.
