Meet Our New Music Therapist

Our team is growing! Some of you may have already met our new music therapist, Rachelle Splechter. Here is a little background information to help you get to know her.

Since starting her work with activities and music therapy at The Groves in September 2017, Rachelle has enjoyed getting to know the wonderful residents and staff at Kensington Park! She received her B.S. in Music Therapy from Augsburg College in August 2017, after completing an intensive six-month music therapy internship with Season’s Hospice of Maryland. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Rachelle traveled internationally with the Bel Canto Singers of Hesston College, as a soprano and accompanist.

While not at Kensington Park, Rachelle currently provides piano lessons at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, after privately studying piano herself for 15 years. As a military spouse, Rachelle continues to explore opportunities to serve veterans through music therapy.

Growing up, Rachelle received support from the older members of her church whenever she shared music. She especially enjoyed sharing hymns with church members in local nursing homes who could no longer attend services. She was amazed at the way the use of music sustained friendships and engagement. Rachelle is thankful to continue meaningful communication with older adults here at Kensington Park, as she discovers new ways to access memory through music therapy.
