Mary’s Message: Friendsgiving & More

Dear Residents, Families and Friends,

As we welcome the month of November, we begin the season of giving and sharing our gratitude. Throughout my 30-year career in health care I have had the opportunity to share my life with many amazing people, but the entire campus of KP, our residents, families and team members are like no other! Truly, we are one big family. The following quote rings especially true here, and you will see it displayed across campus: “Family is not an important thing; it’s everything.” The power of family taking care of family is so evident throughout KP! For this, we are so grateful.

Because giving to others is what we love to do, we are hosting our annual Friendsgiving: Stuff the Truck food drive on Thursday, November 18th from 12-2pm to benefit Mid-County United Ministries (MUM). Drive by the Highlands to drop off non-perishable items (most needed: canned goods, hot/cold cereals, pasta & rice) or $25 gift cards to Safeway and Giant. If you cannot make the drive-thru event on the 18th, you can drop off items to the Highlands front porch, where there will be a designated box, all day on Saturday, November 13th and Sunday, November 14th. A flyer with more details will be forthcoming; be on the lookout!

A special salute to all our Veterans this month as we recognize their unique sacrifices. Their love of country and dedication to coming together as one made a significant difference in all our lives. Betsy Davis, along with our Activities team members, have planned special ceremonies in each building to honor our veteran residents on Thursday, November 11th. Appreciation and recognition of this group is so needed!

November also marks National Family Caregiver Month. We’ll be hosting our monthly Caregiver Connect group for families and friends on Monday, November 8th from 4-5:30pm via Zoom. Social worker Leslie Mason facilitates this intimate group, where attendees can share the joys, challenges and everyday moments of being a family caregiver. RSVP on our website Events page: www.kensingtonparkseniorliving.com/events

And finally, as we prepare for our upcoming Thanksgiving celebration, we are grateful to be here with our team to make this holiday very special for our residents. We wish everyone a peaceful and healthy Turkey Day!

Warmly,
Mary
