Mary’s Message: Find Your Happy

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

Happy New Year to all and wishes for a healthy and happy 2020 from our Kensington Park Team! Happy is the key; could happier people be healthier people? We want to share how Kensington Park’s team sets the stage for our residents to be healthy and happy. Life here provides residents with a purpose, opens doors for self-worth and fosters friendships.

KP residents do for others. Our residents make Linus Blankets for NIH Children’s Inn and “Blessing Bags” for the homeless, including handwritten letters along with personal items. Residents also contribute to Toys for Tots and local food pantries. On campus, residents volunteer by fundraising through our Vintage Car Show, National Night Out and many lemonade stands in the summer. Residents support the Kensington 8K Race by handing out water bottles each year.

KP residents involve others.  Our residents participate in the Town of Kensington’s Labor Day Parade and we are connected with Silver Creek Middle School with our Interages Program: project-based cooperative learning and a choir led by our Music Therapy team. Resident gardens across campus produce fruits and vegetables shared with family and friends as well as used in KP’s recipes. Inviting our neighbors to our Concerts and Movies in the Park allow residents to get to know their neighbors. Campfire Singalongs across campus create an atmosphere of comfort and familiarity.

KP residents support each other. Residents host open houses and housewarming parties across campus, sharing their life treasures, which spark great stories and conversations. Resident ambassadors introduce Life at KP to new residents, giving them support and comfort during this life transition. Programs like “This is Us” provide residents an opportunity to be the VIP with a live audience and interview about their life. Our Life Long Learners extends an invitation to family members and team members to educate others about their work and/or the place they were raised.

So, take your resolution tip to be healthy and happy from our residents – do for others, involve others and support others. Find your happy to keep your health in 2020!

Warmly,

Mary
