Mary’s Message: Changing Seasons

A Message from Our Executive Director

Mary Mell Headshot 2017Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

Showing off a little is what we like to do at KP! You will be happy to know that our resident Photography Club, led by Volunteers Betsy Davis and Sandy Mayer, were big winners at the 2019 Montgomery County Fair: twenty-five (25) ribbons for our KP Photography Club!  We will feature their winning photos and photos of the artists themselves in our next Park Bench edition.

This past month, we had fifteen historic vehicles along with an army jeep and an old-time fire truck roll onto our campus for our annual Car Show held on Sunday, August 18th, 2019. We all got to vote on our favorite car while strolling along with our ice cream. Our 1st Place winner was a 1926 Chevy Superior V, 2nd Place was a 1931 Ford Roadster and 3rd Place was a 1958 Chevy Corvette, all beautifully restored!  This event supported our Kensington Park Alzheimer’s Team. Thank you to all as we raised over $3,000 for our team. Live music by The Melonheads along with great food and socializing with family topped off for a great afternoon no matter the muggy hot August weather!

As we close out summer, we look forward to seeing our families and friends and hope to see you at our Labor Day Cookout!  However, if you want to get a little exercise in first, please join us as we march in the Kensington Labor Day Parade.  Feel free to contact our Activities Coordinator Jackie Gage-Mercado at jgage@kensingtonsl.comif you would like more information.

Love to walk? Please join us on Sunday, September 22nd, 2019 as we will be walking at Nationals Park in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease. Donations to our team can be made here! If you would like to walk with us, please reach out to Betsy Davis at bdavis@kensingtonsl.com or Conor Duncan at cduncan@kensingtonsl.com.

We will continue our fundraising efforts in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease with exciting entertainment by Alain Nu, The Man Who Knows, on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 3pm at Silver Creek Middle School. Be on the lookout for more details by email notice. And please hold the date for our Alzheimer’s Walk on Saturday, October 12, 2019. Donations to our Kensington Team can be made here! We hope you will participate in some fashion!

As we change into a new season we look forward to new friendships, new ideas, and new ways of enhancing our services to you. If you have something you would like to share please reach out to me by email at mmell@kensingtonsl.com or by telephone at 301-946-7700.

Warmly,

Mary
