Mary’s Message: All Things Fall

Dear Residents, Families and Friends,

As we head into the school year and get back into the groove of things after summer, we have lots of excitement happening on campus.

We kick off September this year by participating in the Town of Kensington Labor Day Parade. This event is one of our favorites as some of our residents get to be the stars of the show! We love representing KP in the community as our bus drives through and residents wave to the crowd. We will also celebrate Labor Day on campus with a musical performance for our residents and families.

On Sunday, September 10th, we will be celebrating Grandparent’s Day with a Barnyard Festival at KP! From 2:00 – 4:00pm, bring the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the whole family for a fun afternoon with adorable alpacas, cuddly bunnies, playful Guinea pigs, and an assortment of other feathered and furry friends. We can’t wait to see you!

On September 11th, we plan to honor heroes from the 2001 attacks by holding a moment of silence at each building, as well as pass out Chef Morissa’s home-made lasagnas to the Kensington Fire Department. Our very own move-in coordinator Betsy Davis, former Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief, organizes these special efforts.

September also happens to be Falls Prevention Awareness Month, and we are proud to feature our Director of Rehabilitation Services, Kevin Lorello. Kevin works both one-on-one with residents and in group classes to improve balance and educate on the best fall prevention strategies. Kevin’s weekly “Balance in Action” class at The Highlands is always a packed house!

Finally, look out for details about our upcoming Vintage Car Show on Sunday, October 1st! We are finally bringing back this annual event to our campus. Peruse vintage cars as you enjoy live music and great company. Food, drinks, raffles, and other goodies will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the 2023 National Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We hope to see you there!

I wish everyone a healthy and happy month.

Warmly,
Mary
