We are excited to further expand our creative arts therapies team to bring art therapy services to our Kensington Park campus! Here is a little bit about our new art therapist, Laura Goss.
Laura is very excited to bring more art into the lives of our Kensington Park residents! She grew up right outside of Baltimore, in Ellicott City, and has always had a passion for art. She went to the University of Virginia, where she received undergraduate degrees in psychology and studio art, then attended graduate school at George Washington University, where she earned her master’s degree in art therapy.
She spends most of her time making art, and printmaking is her favorite! She also paints, sculpts, sews, and draws. When she’s not making art, she enjoys spending time with her pet turtle, reading, and cooking.
Art-making can be enjoyable, relaxing, stimulating, and empowering throughout one’s lifespan. In addition, art can boost memory, allow one to express thoughts and emotions, and serve as a space for exercising cognitive skills. Sometimes, as we get older, we lose the wonder we experienced in childhood through art making. It is never too late to ignite or re-ignite, a passion for art. Laura looks forward to sharing the joy of art making with our residents!
