Exciting Partnerships

A Message From the Executive Director

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

Our Kensington Park team hopes you have enjoyed your summer and that the last of it continues to be safe and relaxing!

We are always looking for partnerships that will ultimately benefit our residents, and the following three do just that. I’d like to share a little bit about each.

We were pleased to recently welcome the JCA Heyman Interages Center and our neighbor, Silver Creek Middle School, here to our Kensington Park campus. During a six-week period, a select group of residents from our Woodlands community and students from the school worked collaboratively in pairs on various projects. The process demonstrated to participants how relationships are built through shared efforts toward common goals. We look forward to similar upcoming programs and a long and fruitful alliance with our wonderful neighbor, Silver Creek Middle School.

Since 2015 we have enjoyed a great relationship with the Parkinson’s Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA). Through this association Kensington Park offers both a Communication Club and an Energized Fitness Class for anyone living with Parkinson’s disease. These programs are led by certified professionals in the areas of speech therapy and physical therapy who have undergone specialized training to specifically address the effects of Parkinson’s disease. These groups are open to the public and we hope to soon add a boxing class to our lineup! In our partnership role, each March we sponsor the Parkinson’s Symposium and, each September, the Parkinson’s Walk. The PFNCA Walk at Nationals Park will be held this year on Sunday, September 30. If you’d like to donate, here is our link.

We hope you can be with us on Saturday, October 13, for the annual National Walk to End Alzheimer’s down on the National Mall. Our 2018 team is registered with the Alzheimer’s Association and you can join, here is our link.

Kensington Park continues to be involved with the community at large and will be hosting “National Night Out” on our campus on Tuesday, August 7, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. National Night Out is an annual community-building event, designed to generate and spread goodwill between police and neighborhood residents. This festive evening will feature R&B musician Daryl Davis, K-9 demonstrations, and include various groups that promote neighborhood support of and participation in efforts to make the community a more caring, safe place to live. Bring the whole family to enjoy food, face painting for the kids, and to meet officers from the Montgomery County Police Department, 2nd District, and other local agencies.

Please save the date of Sunday, August 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for Kensington Park’s 2nd Annual Vintage Car Show, here on the Kensington Park campus. Travel back in time, with 20 vintage cars, food, and music to accompany you on your journey!

For details on the two preceding events, feel free to ask any team member, or reach out to Betsy Davis, our move-in coordinator, at bdavis@kensingtonsl.com.

Share the Kensington Park Experience! If you love Kensington Park and know others will too, help your friends become your Kensington Park neighbors with our “Family and Friends” referral program. Extend a complimentary dinner invitation, bring a guest over for a tour of the community, or have your friend join us at one of your favorite community events. To learn more about this program, please contact Perri Holod, director of sales and marketing, at 301-946-7700 or pholod@kensingtonsl.com.

It is truly a pleasure for us to share time with you and your families. Feel free to contact me at any time, at mmell@kensingtonsl.com or 301-946-7700. We would love to hear your thoughts!

Warmly,

Mary Mell Headshot 2017
