Caregiver Connect: Emotional Wellness

As a family caregiver, and as someone who cares for others as a profession, we can often forget to take care of ourselves. So how do we make sure we take care of ourselves when we are the type of people that put others first? Emotional Wellness is what we need to think and do. But what is it? The National Institute of Health defines it as “the ability to successfully handle life’s stresses and adapt to change and difficult times.” This is such a universal skill that can apply to everyone, not just those of us who care for others. NIH has some great insight into this topic, and I encourage you to take 5 minutes to click on the link, review some articles and complete the Emotional Wellness toolkit checklist. These reminders are great for us and great for sharing with others who may be in our same “boat.” We have to remember to take care of ourselves!
