Resident Spotlight: Lenore S.

Meet Michigan native Lenore S. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, she later moved to Detroit where she would spend her childhood.  Lenore soon left the Car Capital of the World to attend high school in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  She was a student at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (B-CC), established in 1926, and was among the earliest graduates of the institution.

Introduced by mutual friends, Lenore met her late husband Harry, a young and upcoming DC lawyer.  The two were married shortly after she graduated high school.  Harry continued to pursue a law career, later becoming a partner at the DC law firm Covington and Burling. Lenore attended the Washington School for Secretaries. The two were married for 55 years and moved several times, first to NW Washington and then to Chevy Chase. In 1971 the couple settled at the Watergate Apartments in DC. They lived at the Watergate during the Nixon Scandal but Lenore is glad it happened in another part of the complex!

Lenore was an activist for the Democratic Party. She enjoyed a variety of activities such as gardening, needlepoint, knitting and crochet of which she was very accomplished. Additionally she was an excellent card player; her favorites were bridge and canasta.

Both she and Harry enjoyed entertaining, often hosting their friends and Harry’s business associates.  They also had a passion for traveling and visited Europe and Asia as well as various resorts throughout the US. They were regulars at the Kennedy Center, too.

In addition to traveling, Lenore loved driving and drove until she was 89-years-old. Lenore and Harry have two sons, Craig and Neil, and she boasts 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  According to her son Craig, Lenore is a devoted mother and grandmother and places great value on family.  At KP you will find Lenore engaged in activities in our Haven program.  She is witty, no nonsense and is well known for her very honest fashion advice.  We are so happy to have her as a part of our Kensington Park Family.
