Dear Residents, Families and Friends,
As you know, family is what Kensington Park is all about. Our promise “to love and care for your family as we do our own” includes you as well. Helping you stay in the family is part of what Marilyn Rippetoe, Director of Family Services and licensed clinical social worker, does in her role. She provides support to both current families as well as those whose loved ones are no longer with us.
Under Marilyn’s leadership, the “Celebration of Life” program was held on Saturday, February 8, 2020. This event included family members and friends of our residents who passed away in 2019. A lovely venue, The Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase, MD., was beautifully decorated with lanterns and twinkling lights to create a warm and welcoming ambiance. The ceremony was profoundly touching, with a family member or team member placing a calla lily beside their loved one’s framed photo as each name was spoken aloud, one by one. The ceremony brought forth beautiful memories and tears, with remembrances shared by team members from each community and music provided by a host of angels, our own music therapy team. Our caterer, Chef Morissa Harris, wowed everyone with her delicious cuisine, which was punctuated by a fabulous Bananas Foster for dessert. Each guest left with a memorial lantern in honor of their loved one.
It was an honor to celebrate the lives of those we have cared for. And, in an important way, it provided our team the opportunity to reunite with all those family members and friends that we have missed. It was deeply gratifying to be able to share such a special event with so many dear friends.
