Summary:

The Director of Independent Living is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Independent Living neighborhood including planning, organizing, developing, directing, and evaluating services and programs in a manner that meets the needs and interests of Independent Living residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participates in the yearly business and budget planning for the Independent Living department.

2. Participates in resident move-in to the community by reviewing pre-move-in assessment, collecting resident personal data, and determining resident interests and social needs.

3. Assists with the transition process in conjunction with the Marketing Department.

Reviews pre-move in financial documents including resident lease agreement in addition to monthly billing statements.

4. Oversees the Kensington at Home administrative side along with the Director of Nurses.

5. Oversees the concierge service and team. There is a lead concierge to do scheduling.

6. Coordinates with the Activities Coordinator on monthly Activities calendars for Independent Living residents. Monitors performance of Activities Coordinator

7. Coordinates issues surrounding food quality and service with Director of Dining Services to assure customer satisfaction.

8. Meets individually with prospective and current residents and their families to discuss issues related to transition to Assisted Living, change in status, and to promote positive customer relations.

9. Assures problems and complaints involving all services and activities are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.

10. Represents Kensington Park in professional and community activities and maintains positive relationship with referral sources and service providers.

11. Interviews, makes hiring recommendations, trains, orients, supervises, evaluates performance, and disciplines neighborhood personnel. Sets departmental priorities and makes job assignments. Keeps employees informed of changes that affect them.

Knowledge and Skill:

1. Must have excellent verbal skills and communication abilities.

2. Ability to work effectively within a team-based environment.

3. Strong time management and organizational skills.

4. Ability to calculate figures related to budgetary items and staffing needs.

5. Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Property Management Systems.

Qualifications:

1. Must be able to clearly and proficiently communicate with people of all ages, while maintaining an energetic and positive attitude.

2. Must be able to read and write English and follow verbal and written instructions.

3. Minimum of three (3) years in similar position, with senior community.

4. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.

5. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals.

6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

7. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

2. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms above, below and at shoulder height.

3. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during an emergency.

4. The ability to remain calm and positive in stressful situations is required.
