Celebration of Life Ceremony
A Message From The Executive Director
Dear Residents, Families and Friends,
As you know, family is what Kensington Park is all about. Our promise “to love and care for your family as we do our own” is what our team focuses on each day. In the last year, our commitment to our promise has grown, and our Director of Family Services, Kimkitta Cariah-Butler, has been instrumental in creating this enhanced focus. In her role, she provides support to both current families as well as those who are no longer with us.
Under Kim’s leadership, a “Celebration of Life” program, was held on Saturday, February 9, 2019, that included close to 110 family members and friends whose loved ones have passed away but who remain a part of our Kensington Park family. A beautiful venue, The Women’s Club of Chevy Chase, MD., was beautifully decorated with lanterns and small lights to create a warm and welcoming ambiance. The ceremony was profoundly touching, with a family member or team member placing a calla lily alongside their loved one’s framed photo as each name was spoken. The program readily brought forth many tears and beautiful memories, with remembrances shared by team members from each community and music provided by a host of angels, our music therapy team. Our caterer, Chef Morissa Harris, wowed everyone with her delicious cuisine, which was punctuated by a fabulous Bananas Foster for dessert. Each guest left with a memorial lantern in honor of their loved one.
It was an honor to celebrate the lives of those we have cared for. And, in an important way, it provided our team the opportunity to reunite with all those family members and friends that we have missed. It was deeply gratifying to be able to share such a special event with so many dear friends.
